Health Disorders Common in Obese Children





Childhood obesity ends up inviting a number of critical health problems. The most common ones among them are:

Metabolic disorders: Obese children are at higher risk of developing insulin resistance, which might affect a child as part of metabolic syndromes; at times insulin resistance can also take the shape of type-2 diabetes. Children who get type-2 diabetes become more susceptible towards developing serious medical conditions like vascular problems, heart diseases, kidney disorders later in their life.

Respiratory issues: Breathing problems are common among obese children. Children with high percentage of fat in their body often complain about breathing difficulties. One might also develop asthma due to excess body weight; asthma in obese children can lead to life threatening conditions. Children suffering from obesity are more likely to experience sleeping disorder like sleep apnea; sleep apnea is a risk factor of heart disorders.

Cardiovascular disorders: Obese children often become the victim of hypertension. This rise in blood pressure levels is due to the strain induced on the heart by excess body weight. Chronic hypertension will damage heart, arteries and blood vessels of the sufferers. The rate of occurrence of cholesterol disorders is also significantly more among the obese children compared to children with normal body weight.  High levels of blood cholesterol might lead to blockages in the arteries, which is the primary cause of heart attacks.

Other health disorders triggered by child obesity: The chances of develop live disease is also more among the obese children. Statistics show that an obese child is more likely to get gallstones than a child with normal body weight. Mental health problems like depression and panic are also more common among children suffering from obesity. Obesity also triggers eating disorders among children.
